It's funny how the best scenes are often tucked away where no one else is looking. I was driving a well-known wash in Capitol Reef, and on a whim, I decided to explore a narrow side canyon. Just a few hundred feet in, the canyon opened up slightly to reveal this small pool of water. I looked down and saw this perfect composition: a tiny island of sand, shaped by receding water, with a single piece of driftwood placed just so. The water was a deep purple, reflecting the golden sandstone cliffs above while revealing the rippled sand on the bottom. It felt like stumbling upon a secret, a miniature landscape complete in its own quiet world.
