Geyser Basin Sentinels
Yellowstone National Park
Walking through Norris Geyser Basin always feels a bit like stepping onto another planet. The air has that sharp, sulfurous smell, and the ground itself seems to breathe with steam. On this particular day, the sky was a heavy, uniform gray, which made the white 'bobby socks' trees stand out like bones. I was focused on the stark shapes of the trees when I noticed them—two ravens, sitting shoulder to shoulder on a high branch. They were perfectly still, just two dark silhouettes against the pale wood. The silence was immense. It wasn't a dramatic scene, but a quiet, simple one. Just two companions sharing a view, making this strange, geothermal landscape feel a little less lonely.
