Ephemeral Embrace

Death Valley National Park

I almost walked right past this. After a rare rain in Death Valley, I was exploring some back areas and found this tiny scene. It was just a small puddle, but the way the mud had cracked around it was incredible. The light was hitting it just right, turning everything this soft, unbelievable shade of purple. It felt like I'd stumbled upon something secret. The mud looked like folded fabric, like velvet, with these dark cracks running through it like veins. The water in the middle was perfectly still, reflecting the sky. It was so quiet out there, just me and this little pocket of temporary life in the middle of the desert.
